  • Puffinus lherminieri (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) was split into P. lherminieri and P. baroli by Sangster et al. (2005) but this treatment is not followed by the BirdLife Taxonomic Working Group, because the molecular study cited as justification for the separation of baroli from lherminieri (Austin et al. 2004) does not make such a claim, indicating only that baroli is a diagnosable subspecies of P. lherminieri. (P. baroli is currently treated as a subspecies of P. assimilis following Brooke 2004).
